Here's a fun little eBay find -- an audio visual chronicle of the Queen Mary's final voyage from Southampton, England to Long Beach, California in October through December of 1967. This boxed set includes a 10" LP recording of narration, sound effects, and music, and 80 full color slides of images taken during that legendary trip, the venerable old girl's 1001st voyage. Produced by Identicolor Laboratory, Inc. of Hollywood, California, it was written and narrated by Dr. Bertram Barer, with photography by Leslie Fitzpatrick & Dalton "Skip" Creaser. I don't know if this was sold aboard the Queen Mary during her early days in Long Beach, or if was made as an AV presentation for schools. Whatever it is, it's pretty entertaining in a very quaint "please change the slide when you hear the tone" kind of way. Because it's over twenty minutes long, I've divided the presentation into two segments, appropriately enough, at the point where you're instructed to turn over the record. In the internet age, that means close your Windows Media Player and click on the link for part 2. While there was no copyright information on these materials, if I have violated anyone's copyright, please email me and I will take this page down. I hope you enjoy this very special presentation! |
